No, an ostrich hen can, and often will, lay eggs even if no male ostrich is with her. However, the eggs will of course not be fertile and will not hatch if incubated. They will make great eggs for eating or eggshells for crafts after being emptied of the contents within.

Hi,
Could you tell me if ostrich hens need a rooster in order to lay eggs?
Thank you
